CANYS Membership Survey
Under the leadership of CANYS Chair Nancy Ploeger, we would like to take a quick survey of our CANYS members to find out which chambers have initiatives in the areas of WMBE Certification; which chambers have any type of global initiative; and which chambers work with other chambers in their region. New York Day in Washington May 9-10

New York Day provides chambers and business people an opportunity for meaningful contact with Congressional legislators and staff. Your colleagues on the New York Day planning committee are working hard to bring you a Legislative Reception on Capitol Hill featuring made-in-New York refreshments, a Congressional Breakfast highlighted by addresses from Senator Charles Schumer and Senator Hillary Clinton, an Issues Briefing with high-level policymakers and political activists, and more.
The CANYS Board and New York Day Planning Committee aim to make this event valuable and reasonable. First CANYS Membership Directors Teleconference April 17
Are you interested in growing your membership base? Learning new sales ideas to get out of a rut? Hearing from wildly successful membership sales professionals on how they make their chambers soar?
Thanks to a great idea and legwork from CANYS Chair-Elect Todd Shimkus, the first-ever CANYS Membership Directors Teleconference will take place on Tuesday, April 17 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
This teleconference is open to paid membership directors and Chamber presidents/executive directors interested in membership sales and retention strategies. The special one-hour agenda includes:
- Welcome and self introductions
- Purpose of the Teleconference
- Guest Speaker: Kyle Sexton, the Director of Member Services with the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, in Oregon, and an award winning member of ACCE’s Circle of Champions which annually honors sales directors for membership sales achievements.
- Questions and Answers with Kyle Sexton about successful sales strategies
- Interest in making this a regular CANYS program
- Closing Remarks

$1000 scholarship to Institute available
The CANYS Board has once again approved a $1000 scholarship for a chamber executive or staff member to attend Institute.
The Institute for Organizational Management of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is looking for new students. The Institute curriculum is a four-year course of study designed by experts in association, chamber, and non-profit management. Participants take six required core courses each year with the same group of colleagues, creating a learning group that builds upon previous classes. In addition, participants also choose three electives each year to meet their personal objectives and boost their careers.
Northeast Institute is held at Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania, July 29 through August 2, 2007 For more information, go to www.uschamber.com/institute. The early enrollment deadline for Northeast Institute is June 5, 2007.

Scholarship to ACCE Convention available
The CANYS Board has decided to partner with ACCE in providing two scholarships to ACCE's Convention, August 1-4 in Sacramento. These scholarships will cover registration fees to the conference – up to a $737 value to you or another of your staff!
ACCE Conventions provide education, information, and networking opportunities for all chamber professionals. More information on the conference can be found HERE.
Applications for the scholarships are now being accepted! Please complete and return the FORM to be placed into consideration. The application deadline is May 1, 2007.

Participate in the 9g Enterprises 2007 national survey
Many CANYS members easily remember Bob Vosburgh’s dynamic presentation benchmarking our chamber operations at the 2006 CANYS Legislative and Leadership conference. Now 9g Enterprises is back with its second nationwide chamber member survey—and looking for your participation.
As a participating chamber, you’ll get feedback on how you’re doing, in ten key areas, versus other North American Chambers. (An overview of the survey is available HERE). If 50 of your members participate in the survey, 9gs will send you the survey results (quantitative versus the baseline plus comments) and a downloadable video that reviews the results for all ten areas and highlights best practices. The video will be geared for Chamber Board debriefs.
Once your chamber signs up, 9gs will provide a turnkey process to get the survey out to your membership. (They do not see your member information. Chambers send out the emails, not 9gs.) The survey will run in the month of May, results will be compiled in June, and feedback will be provided shortly thereafter.
