New York Day in Washington - Save the Date . . .Climb Capitol Hill with CANYS and plan to attend New York Day in Washington, May 11-12, 2005. New York Day provides chambers and business people an opportunity for meaningful contact with Congressional legislators and staff. Your colleagues on the New York Day planning committee are working hard to bring you a Legislative Reception on Capitol Hill featuring made-in-New York refreshments, a Congressional Breakfast, highlighted by addresses from Senator Charles Schumer and Senator Hillary Clinton, an Issues Briefing with high-level policymakers and political activists, and more. Watch for New York Day in Washington registration forms arriving at your chamber soon. Federal transportation update . . .In response to the Administration's fiscal year 2006 budget proposal, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee introduced a six-year highway and transit funding bill that would guarantee $284 billion through 2009. The bipartisan legislation (H.R. 3) - "The Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy For Users" (TEA LU), is expected to be marked up by the full transportation committee before the President's Day recess and reach the House floor in early March. The bill includes the same policy provisions as last year's House bill (H.R. 3550) and is actually a $4.5 billion increase over the House-passed bill last year. The Rockland County Legislature presented the award to Al in early February. The award is the highest recognition made by the Legislature for service to the County, and was made for Al’s collected good works on behalf of the people of Rockland. Former Corning Area Chamber executive Marty Muggleton has taken a new position at the Larson Design Group.
