CANYS Issue Survey . . .

The CANYS meeting will be held from 3:30-5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 22 at the hotel. Multiple presentation topics are currently under discussion. Please assist us in developing programming you’ll want to attend! Click HERE to participate in a fax-back issues survey from the Governmental Affairs Committee. New York Main Street funding available . . .

The State’s Division of Housing and Community Renewal has announced a new $20 million grant program known as New York Main Street.

The New York Main Street program (NYMS) aims to help revitalize communities by funding building renovations, downtown business or cultural anchors and streetscape enhancements that are ancillary to other program activities. The Program will fund up to $200,000 on a competitive basis to not-for-profit organizations, not-for-profit BIDs, or not-for-profit charitable organizations who will serve as Local Program Administrators and in turn administer local grant programs intended to stimulate Main Street revitalization efforts.

For further information, download a copy of the New York Main Street Program Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA). Included in the NOFA is a list of workshops scheduled in communities throughout the State to familiarize interested parties with the application process. Applications for the first round of funding will be due by 5:00pm on Monday, September 20, 2004.

Get out the Vote 2004 . . .

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is making it even easier for member chambers to partner with it to increase pro-business voter turnout in November 2004.

The Chamber has launched an online employer toolkit so chambers can visit a site and download materials they need to promote voting and VoteForBusiness, the Chamber's national get-out-the-vote effort. You can find it here: www.voteforbusiness.com/toolkit

Partnering with chambers across the country in 2002, Vote For Business.com registered thousands of new voters, helped employees obtain the information they needed to vote via absentee ballot, and provided critical information about pro-business candidates. In 2004, the U.S. Chamber will again engage in the political scene in places where it can make a real difference by educating, energizing, and turning out the business vote. Your chamber can help!

Contact the U.S. Chamber today at 202-463-5604 or vote@uschamber.com to sign up or learn more.

Tell us about it . . .

Colleen DiPirro of the Amherst Chamber needs your help: I am in the process of hiring an Executive Membership Manager, responsible for solicitation of new membership and management of existing membership. I have had salespeople in the past but this is a higher level position. Do any CANYS members have job descriptions and compensation packages I can use as a guide? E-mail Colleen at cdipirro@amherstchamber.org

Jim Roche at the Mohawk Valley Chamber needs your help: Do chambers provide Certificates of Origin on chamber letterhead? Do chambers charge for them? If so, what is the amount? Do chambers ever provide companies with stamped "extras" that are not completely filled out with shipment info? Any other relevant information you can provide would be great. E-mail Jim at jroche@mvchamber.org

Got a question you’d like to ask other CANYS members? Job opening in your chamber? Great idea you’d like to share? Send it to maggie.moree@bcnys.org.
