Association Health Plans: Still in Senate committee . . .

While the Small Business Health Fairness Act is still sitting in a Senate committee in Washington, debate is likely to resume sometime in the next congressional session. In CANYS’s continuing effort to keep you informed of this legislation that could affect your chamber and health plans you may offer, below are some articles you might find educational. If you have trouble with any of these links, please visit www.canys.org. If your chamber has strong feelings on either side of the debate, please be sure to share your views: maggie.moree@bcnys.org.

Tell us about it . . .

Jim Roche at the Mohawk Valley Chamber needs your help: Hello! I'm looking for criteria your chamber may be using to select "Business of the Year" in your community/area. We have such an award, given in three categories (large business, small business, and nonprofit), but our criteria are not well articulated. Anyone who is willing share this criteria with me will become an honorary member of the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce! Priceless! :-) Thanks in advance for your help! Call Jim at 315-724-3151, ext. 229 or e-mail jroche@mvchamber.org

Frank Hale at the Greater Oswego Chamber needs your help: Greetings!! We are in the process of revising our dues structure for 2004. As a result, we are looking at all categories, including the participation of SUNY Oswego. I am writing to ask chambers with SUNY colleges to provide any information that they can about:

  • your relationship with your college
  • your dues structure for your college
  • additional support the chamber receives from the college
  • who from your college is involved with the chamber?
  • any additional information that you may be able to provide about college/chamber relations and support

Also, do you have a not-for-profit category? Call Frank at 315-343-7681, or e-mail fsh@oswegochamber.com

Rob Robinson at The Otsego County Chamber wants to follow up on the September 19th CANYS luncheon at which he presented his chamber/college partnership with the Leatherstocking Center for Economic Education: As we offered at each table, if any chamber is interested in pursuing a course like the ones we have established, John Clow and I would be willing to meet with those chambers individually. We believe in it so strongly that we would ask to have our expenses covered. Call Rob at 1-877-OTSEGO or e-mail rob@otsegocountychamber.com

Ellen Daley from the Orange County Chamber reports that at a recent chamber event, a group of panelists spontaneously broke into song to extol the chamber’s virtues. For your enjoyment, here are the lyrics, sung to the tune of “Getting to Know You. ”

Get-ting to know you/ From Ga-la Ball to the Ex-po,
Golf-ing and mix-ers/ Now we all know what to say.
Have-n't you no-ticed/ Sud-den-ly your bus-iness has grown?
Because of all the/ Won-der-ful and new/ Things the Cham-ber does for you
Day by day!

Got a question you’d like to ask other CANYS members? Job opening in your chamber? Great idea you’d like to share? Send it to maggie.moree@bcnys.org.
