Paid Family Leave (S.5821 / A.9245)

A new mandate is under debate in Albany – and it’s one that would make doing business and creating jobs in New York more difficult by increasing costs and impacting day-to-day business operations.

It’s called Paid Family Leave (S.5821 / A.9245). And while it sounds good in theory, it means forced overtime, increased costs, and another government “bite” out of employee paychecks.

This proposed legislation would mandate a paid family leave policy. The plan would amend the state’s temporary disability insurance system to provide payments for 12 weeks to workers with no disability for the birth or adoption of a child or for care of a sick relative.

The impact of this one-size fits all mandate would be a huge burden on New York’s businesses and on many workers. Even in the best of times this proposal would make doing business and creating jobs in New York more difficult. Given our current economic situation imposing any new barriers to job growth defies logic. We need your voices in Albany to stop this mandate.

New York needs to create private sector jobs and grow our economy. That should be the focus of the legislature, not legislation that will kill jobs. Join with us to oppose Paid Family Leave today.
